Senior Cycle

The Leaving Certificate is a two year course with a variety of subjects which are offered at Higher and Ordinary levels. Parents are advised to check with the school on the availibilty of particular subjects each year. The Leaving Certificate Applied, an alternative to the traditional Leaving Certificate, is also available to students at Senior Cycle level.

Transition Year

Transition Year is designed as a ‘stepping stone’ from the Junior Cycle to the more academic demands of the Senior Cycle. Students who have completed the Junior Certificate are strongly advised to undertake this programme which has been greatly enhanced over the years. It encourages an awareness of the world of work and contributes to the growth of self confidence and personality through a wide range of academic, cultural, aesthetic, sporting and leisure activities. As part of Transition Year Programme students have an opportunity to go on an educational tour abroad.

Junior Cycle

All students attending Holy Child Community School are prepared for the Junior Certificate examination. First years sample all the subjects on offer. Before entering second year, they make certain subject choices for the Junior Certificate. The range of subject may vary slightly from year to year.
