International Week was held in early May at Holy Child CS.
We got the chance to hear from students' experiences of coming from and living in different countries which was interesting and insightful for all.
International students created presentations on the areas of natural beauty, national dress and days of national celebration in the countries they have lived in. We drew up a school wide quiz on their work.
Plus Ms O'Loughlin created a whopping 'Match the Flag to the Land Mass' quiz which had everyone invested for long periods of time!
We shared a playlist of music students created from their native lands. First years enjoyed the experience of learning Indonesian dance from Ms Yanti Damayathi, mother of Aaliyah. This was a beautifully elegant demonstration which all involved loved. This was followed by our own Scottish librarian, Iona Bishop instructing on Highland dancing during P.E.
We enjoyed a Korean film over lunchtimes throughout the week in our library.
Students were awarded with merits in journals for usage of other's native languages, which were displayed around the school.
This was worthwhile to them as it gained them entry on receipt of 10 merits to the International Food Market on Friday afternoon.
A massive effort was made by so many students to share the culinary heritage of their homelands with all. It was a big buzz and we really felt like we were away at a bustling bazaar! Everybody tried something new from their fellow classmates.
All in all, we learned a lot from one another and this week made us more aware of how interculturalism enriches our world and definitely our community school!
