Our Transition Year students have proven that you don't need a feature-length runtime to make a massive impact. This year, a group of creative TYs took part in the Rubbish Film Festival, a unique initiative that challenges students to combine cinematic storytelling with global activism.
The Creative Process
The journey began in the classroom, where students were tasked with selecting a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to champion. Under the guidance of Mr. Hall-Roche, the team spent weeks meticulously planning their project. From brainstorming themes of environmental justice to drafting storyboards, every second of their one-minute film was carefully calculated to deliver a powerful message.
Once the vision was set, industry professionals from the Rubbish Film Festival visited the school. They worked hand-in-hand with our students to transform those sketches and scripts into a high-quality digital reality, teaching them the "ins and outs" of filming, lighting, and pacing.
A Day at the Lighthouse Cinema
The hard work culminated in March at the prestigious Lighthouse Cinema for the festival’s awards ceremony. It was a fantastic showcase of young talent from across the region, but our students truly stood out.
We are thrilled to announce that our Transition Year team walked away with the "Impact Award"! This award recognizes films that go beyond aesthetics to truly resonate with the audience and spark a conversation about the future of our planet.

Thank You
A massive well done to the selection of TY students involved for their dedication and creativity. We also want to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Hall-Roche for his mentorship and for driving this project from a simple idea to an award-winning reality.
Congratulations to all involved!
